It means mostly avoiding ingredients you would not cook with at home.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 5\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<h3><strong>Here are the seven rules we followed during our original <a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/programs\/original-100-days-series\/\">100 Days of Real Food<\/a> pledge:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>No refined grains (such as white flour or white rice); only 100 percent whole grain. Items containing wheat must say WHOLE wheat...not just \"wheat\" by itself.<\/li>\n<li>No refined or artificial sweeteners (such as sugar, any form of corn syrup, cane juice, or the artificial stuff like Splenda); only honey and pure maple syrup in moderation.<\/li>\n<li>Nothing out of a package that contains more than five ingredients.<\/li>\n<li>No factory-farmed meat; only locally raised meat products.<\/li>\n<li>No deep-fried foods.<\/li>\n<li>No fast food.<\/li>\n<li>Beverages to include only water, milk, occasional all-natural juices, naturally sweetened coffee and tea, and (to help the adults keep their sanity) wine and beer in moderation!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>I promise, there's still food left after eliminating everything mentioned in our rules!<\/p>\n<h3>What you CAN eat:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/approved-food-pic.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-40\" src=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/approved-food-pic-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Whole foods<\/strong> that are more a product of nature than a product of industry<\/li>\n<li>Lots of <strong>fruits and vegetables<\/strong> (we recommend that you shop for these at your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.localharvest.org\/\">local farmers' market<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dairy products<\/strong> like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/2010\/08\/12\/milk-%E2%80%93-good-or-bad\/\">milk<\/a>, unsweetened yogurt, eggs, and cheese<\/li>\n<li>100% <strong>whole-wheat and whole-grains<\/strong> (find a <a href=\"http:\/\/blipstar.com\/blipstarplus\/viewer\/blipstar.php?uid=600237\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">local bakery<\/a> for approved sandwich bread and check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/2010\/07\/29\/understanding-grains-corn-wheat-multi-grain-etc\/\">Understanding Grains<\/a> post for more info)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/how-to-select-real-seafood\/\"><strong>Seafood<\/strong><\/a> (wild-caught is the optimal choice over farm-raised)<\/li>\n<li>Only <strong>locally raised meats<\/strong> such as pork, beef, and chicken (preferably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/becoming-a-flexitarian\/\">in moderation<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Snacks like <strong>dried fruit, seeds, nuts and popcorn<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Also, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.100daysofrealfood.com\/real-food-resources\/\"><strong>Recipes &amp; Resources page<\/strong><\/a> for a more detailed list of meal options including links to recipes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Real food basically means anything not highly processed (like artificial additives) and containing only five or fewer whole ingredients.
